Angola

In cooperation with Marshall Legacy Institute, MDDC established the mine detection dog program for National Institute of Demining (INAD) in Angola in 2011. Six mine detection dogs were trained, while the integration of the teams was conducted in Angola with training of local handlers, who were tested and accredited in accordance with IMAS - International Mine Action Standards upon completion of the training. Additional six handlers were trained at that time for purpose of integration of future teams that MDDC will train in Angola. Upon completion of accreditation process, the teams have been deployed in demining projects across Angola. In very first weeks of their deployment, they showed high productivity and efficiency. National Demining Institute expressed the interest in training of additional 36 mine detection dogs, while further deployment of MDDC in Angola is expected to start soon.  Even though this is only the beginning of use of mine detection dogs trained at MDDC, only positive news about their efficiency  are coming from the field.
